What Do We Believe? (or What's In Our Name?) Reformation The 16th century reformation of the church was a movement dedicated to the renewal of obedience to the Word of God, to the gospel of God's saving grace for sinners such as ourselves, and to a Biblical vision of God's majesty over all of life. We desire to be a continuing part of that renewal movement. Orthodox The Orthodox Presbyterian Church has existed for over 70 years. The word "orthodox" simply means straight teaching. We strive to be true to the original gospel message proclaimed in the Bible. Presbyterian We are a Presbyterian Church, which means that, we are governed by elders elected from among the members of the congregation, and that we are Reformed in doctrine as summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. Church We are a community of Christians who worship together and who seek to preach and teach the Word of God and seek to show the mercy and compassion of Christ in a lost and needy world. We Invite You The Church of Jesus Christ is ruled by the Word of God. We believe that the Bible is God's Word and we seek to confess the faith and to live the life that is declared in the Scriptures. We are not interested in being fashionable according to the dictates of this sin broken world, but instead our interest is to be faithful to God's truth. We invite you to hear and learn the Word of God together with us. The Church of Jesus Christ is the assembly of God's people already gathered on the earth. One day it will be gathered in heaven forever. Our home country is heaven and our king is God and his son Jesus Christ. We invite you to become a part of this assembly. The Church of Jesus Christ is the family of God. We are born into this family by the sovereign grace and mercy of God, through faith in Christ. Our Savior came down from heaven in order to enlarge the family of God. For all who believe in him, his Father has become their Father (John 20:17). We invite you to become a member of this family. The Church of Jesus Christ consists of the servants of God. Our chief purpose is to glorify God and enjoy him forever (Westminster Shorter Catechism # 10). God is not our servant to do our bidding. We are his servants to do his bidding. "For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen" (Romans 11:36). We invite you to serve God together with us. The Church of Jesus Christ is a worshipping community. In worship we show our gratitude to God for our salvation in Christ. We give expression to our desire to live for his glory. We repent of ignoring him, making idols and of steering our lives by our own selfish concerns. We invite you to come and worship God the Father, through His Son Jesus Christ and by the Holy Spirit. |
